Solana (SOL).
Despite the fact that 2021 saw a fair share of cryptocurrency token takeoffs, Solana may be the most impressive story of the year. After starting the year with just 0.01% of the market, SOL made a meteoric rise and by September had broken into the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization.
Not counting Stablecoin, SOL has since moved into the top five. Its Cinderella story was not due to silly speculative hype caused by memes, but to its technological ingenuity. Like Ethereum, the Solana protocol was created to facilitate the creation of DApps, but the network actually runs even faster than Ethereum, has much lower fees and is designed to scale more easily than its competitors. Solana repeatedly reached record highs in late October and early November.
